Life Is Best When You Improvise

I'm feeling the truth of that a lot at the moment.

Here's the link to the post with an image and the quote - it's a quote from George Gershwin.

Life is a lot like jazz. It's best when you improvise.

Weekly Roundup Wednesday 16.1.14

I published an article entitled 'Greeting Cards For Guinea Pig Lovers' and opened by commenting that there was some ambiguity in the title...

And I published an article under the title Swim Different in which I deconstructed a greeting card by looking at the different elements in it... colourful versus colourful, toeing the line versus breaking free, and other less obvious commentary.

And under the title Big Blue Cockerel, I published an article about the big cock on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square.

Katharina Fritsch’s Big Blue Cock is currently on what is called ‘the empty plinth’ in Trafalgar Square. The plinth has housed a number of sculptures over the years. Here is what the artist says about her contribution (as reported in the Guardian):
Gleefully feminist, the work pokes amiable fun at the vainglorious statues of men (Nelson, George IV, and generals Havelock and Napier) that surround it in this most imperial of British public spaces. “Humour is always a big thing for me,” said Fritsch. “It stops things from becoming too severe. I like English humour. It is so often very dark.”
Also, on More, I published an article about creativity in retirement.  I illustrated the article with this card from our Pelican Cards greeting cards range.

And lastly I posted several articles based around photos I took with my iPhone in London that I ran through the SnapSeed app. The HDR tool in Snapseed works well with mixed lighting. Here is an image from the latest post on Light Reading:

Ambassadors For World Peace

On my blog at Photographworks back in November I wrote that:

Guinea pigs are ambassadors for world peace. Make it a habit to cuddle a guinea pig and pretty soon the world will be a brighter, more peaceful place.
Don't believe me? Try it and see.
Even imagining holding a guinea pig, letting it sit on my chest, eases the stresses and strains of life.

Have a happy 2014.

Happy New Year

Weekly Roundup Wednesday 1.1.14

Tamara published a timely article about Hogmanay in Scotland, on the Quillcards blog.

I published this article about Bedlam - a small village in Yorkshire - on the Quillcards blog.

And Tamara and I published an article about the free trial we've introduced for our ecards.

And Maria contributed an article entitled 'Let It Snow' to More.PelicanCards.

I've been reading a support article on Google about adding a domain or domain alias to Google apps for business - and still not sure what is and what is not possible with a free apps account (which are no longer available, by the way).

And here are the top 50 SEO posts of 2013 according to Link Assistant (with a hat tip to Shaun Anderson of Hobo for that).
